Our Story

The Greyhound Sanctuary is a small, self-funded charity based in Devon. Our story involves the rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing of abused and abandoned greyhounds and lurchers. These wonderfully gentle and loving dogs deserve to find their forever home and with your support we can help many more.

Rescuing greyhounds and lurchers and finding them safe, happy, loving homes is our primary aim as well as raising awareness about the plight of thousands of greyhounds when they are no longer required for racing. While waiting for their forever homes our greyhounds and lurchers stay at the wonderful Kinnings Farm Boarding & Rescue Kennels near Umberleigh in North Devon. Whilst the aim is always to re-home our greyhounds and lurchers as soon as possible, if for any reason they are not able to be re-homed, we are committed to ensuring they can live out the remainder of their lives in peace and safety.

The Greyhound Sanctuary does not receive any funding from the greyhound racing industry and as such we are only able to survive through the generosity of our members and through local fundraising.

Please read our Friends of The Greyhound Sanctuary Autumn Newsletter 2015 to give you a flavour of some of the things we do each year to raise funds.
